Perineo-Sphincterian Reeducation Bascharage

The perineum represents the set of muscles that extend from the pubis to the coccyx. It therefore has a direct influence on the proper functioning of the urinary, fecal and sexual system. The perineum has three main functions:

  • Evacuation and release function
  • A hold and lock function
  • A support function

The perineal or perineo-sphincter rehabilitation will act, in a simple and effective way, to find or find a good balance between these three essential functions. It therefore aims to work the flexibility, contractility and tone of the perineum.

Procedure of the consultation

Perineo-sphincteric reeducation, at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week, begins with a session to raise awareness and explain the perineum, accompanied by basic hygienic-behavioral advice. The second session will begin with a manual assessment in order to best focus the treatment for each patient. She will continue with the first basic exercises that will allow better proprioceptive control of the pelvic floor. The following sessions will evolve according to the progress of each and the different objectives set together. Advice and exercises that are simple to perform at home will be given to you as the sessions progress, so that you can progress as quickly as possible. At the end of each session, you will be offered, if you wish, access to a relaxing session.

The techniques used

To do this, different techniques of reeducation of the urogenital sphere are possible and complementary:

  • Manual rehabilitation

It is the therapist who, by digital intravaginal (in women) or anal (in men), will be able to assess the capacity of contraction and relaxation of the perineum, but also be able to carry out a work of reinforcement or relaxation of the musculature constituting the perineum.

It allows awareness of the perineal function by materializing on a screen the contraction and relaxation of the pelvic muscles induced by a vaginal or anal probe.

It allows, by means of a vaginal or anal probe, a stimulation which will have a proprioceptive, inhibitory, muscle relaxant or excitomotor function according to the different frequencies used.

  • Global rehabilitation

It is carried out by hypopressive exercises and by re-training with the effort with a better use of the perineum in synergy with the abdominal strap which will be applied daily.
