Can we start before the scar has closed?

Yes, and it is often recommended. The physiotherapist then works with gloves, scrupulously following the surgeon's instructions. Starting early favours good healing and limits the adhesions that would later hinder movement.

Is a swollen hand after a trauma serious?

Oedema is normal at first, but it should be monitored. This is why drainage, cryotherapy and regular follow-up are part of the care: they limit the swelling and reduce the risk of complications such as complex regional pain syndrome.

How long does hand rehabilitation last?

The duration depends on the injury, any operation, the quality of healing and your goals. Some care lasts a few weeks, other cases several months. The programme is reassessed regularly: functional stages matter more than a number of sessions set in advance.

Should I wear a splint between sessions?

Often yes, particularly after an operation or a fracture. The splint protects the repair and keeps the hand in a favourable position. The physiotherapist shows you how to remove and put it back on correctly, and wearing it must follow the surgeon's instructions.
