No, they complement each other. Pressotherapy prepares and extends the work, manual drainage refines and targets the areas of blockage. It is their combination, with compression, that makes the treatment effective. Each session is adjusted to the state of your oedema.

Can lymphoedema really be stabilised?

Yes. It is a chronic disease, but well-conducted treatment strongly reduces the volume, then maintenance — daily compression, self-drainage, follow-up — makes it possible to keep this benefit. Regularity and your involvement are decisive.

Is drainage painful?

No. Manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle pressure, adapted to the firmness of the tissues. On fibrotic areas, some deeper manoeuvres may be a little firmer, but the technique always remains adjusted to your comfort and explained beforehand.

Are there situations where drainage is not advised?

Yes. In case of acute infection (erysipelas), untreated phlebitis, decompensated heart failure or an active, untreated tumour, drainage may be contraindicated. The initial assessment makes it possible to check this and, if necessary, to discuss it with your doctor before starting.
