Informations et rendez-vous au Pôle Équi","content":"**The [SkillRow](https://www.technogym.com/en-INT/product/skillrow_DJR0NDT.html) (Technogym) is a pneumatic-resistance rowing ergometer. The Aquafeel™ curve reproduces the dynamics of an oar in water: resistance rises progressively during the pull, which limits the typical lumbar jolt of all-air rowers. At Pôle Equilibre & Santé, in Bascharage, it serves for retraining endurance and the posterior chain, always under technical guidance.**\n\n## Aquafeel™ and Multidrive™: what Technogym describes\n\nUnlike a water rower, the SkillRow does not use a tank. Aquafeel™ is an **air resistance** whose handle-speed curve comes close to that of an oar in a boat. Technogym indicates that this progressive rise reduces the abrupt recoil effect on the lower back.\n\nMultidrive™ technology adds a selector:\n\n- **rowing mode**: ten levels of air resistance, cardiorespiratory work;\n- **power mode**: three levels of extra load, rather for strength work once the movement is acquired.\n\nThe self-powered 7\" LCD console displays watts, cadence and distance. These figures serve to dose the session, not to aim for a record.\n\nThe correct movement remains that of rowing: **legs, then trunk, then arms** on the pull; the reverse on the return. Pulling first with the arms, rounding the pelvis and raising the shoulders loads the lumbar spine. That is why the first sessions are done with the physiotherapist: slide range, foot position, trunk organisation.\n\n## Indications in rehabilitation\n\nThe rower solicits hamstrings, gluteals, spinal muscles, calves, back muscles and the upper limbs, without heel-to-ground impact. It is useful:\n\n- when running and jumping remain contraindicated, but endurance work is already possible;\n- to rebuild the posterior chain after an immobilisation phase, once the authorised ranges are there;\n- in [sports physiotherapy](/bascharage/competence/kinesitherapie-du-sport), as low-impact cardio, provided the spine and the knees tolerate the slide.\n\nIt is not indicated in acute low-back pain, in a disc flare, nor as a treatment of a tendinopathy: the tendon is rehabilitated by targeted load. The rower can be added later, if the movement is clean.\n\n## What rowing physiology allows one to dose\n\nHagerman (*Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise*) showed that rowing rapidly raises cardiorespiratory demand. Secher (*Sports Medicine*, 1993) synthesised that physiology. In rehabilitation, that justifies **short, controlled** efforts: four to eight minutes, sometimes fractionated, suffice at the start of a programme. A 2000 m is not a clinical goal.\n\n## How it goes, clothing, pain\n\nClosed shoes wedged on the foot stretchers, clothing that allows hip flexion. Prescription and flexion instructions (knee, hip, spine) are needed after surgery. A light meal is enough.\n\nThe console serves as a marker. We often start at a low air level, limited slide. Typical duration: four to eight minutes within a session of about thirty minutes. We lengthen when the trunk stays organised and the knee does not swell in the following 24 hours.\n\nHamstring or gluteal fatigue at the end of a set is expected. Lightning low-back pain, radiation into the leg, a knee locked in hyperflexion: we stop and we review the slide. Increasing the pull to mask pain is not a rehabilitation instruction.\n\nDriving is generally possible after a moderate effort. After a first session, the back can be tired: a pause before a long journey is reasonable. The rower prepares endurance; it does not validate a pivot or running sport.\n\n## Contraindications and timelines\n\nUnexplored acute low-back pain, forbidden knee or hip flexion, a disc flare, infection, chest pain, a recent thrombosis: the SkillRow waits.\n\nThe first progress concerns the quality of the movement and effort tolerance, in a few sessions. Useful endurance is built over weeks. Tolerating the rower does not guarantee tolerating gardening, lifting or a return to sport: those gestures are then reworked on the ground.\n\n\n## Frequently asked questions\n\n<details>\n<summary>How should I prepare and what should I wear?</summary>\n\nClosed shoes, clothing that allows hips and knees to flex, prescription and back or flexion instructions. A light meal is enough. Mention low-back pain that day, dizziness or chest pain.\n\n</details>\n\n<details>\n<summary>How long does one row?</summary>\n\nOften four to eight minutes at the start, sometimes fractionated, within a session of about thirty minutes. Technique takes precedence over distance. We lengthen when the back stays organised.\n\n</details>\n\n<details>\n<summary>I have back pain: is the rower risky, and can one fall?</summary>\n\nWithout guidance, the lumbar spine is easily overloaded. With a correct technique and a limited slide, the rower can on the contrary strengthen the trunk. This is not the device of the acute phase. You are sitting: a fall is unlikely; the rail is set to limit the range.\n\n</details>\n\n<details>\n<summary>What if it hurts during the exercise?</summary>\n\nStop the stroke and say so. We shorten the slide, we lower the intensity or we change exercise. Effort rear-thigh burn is not lightning low-back pain.\n\n</details>\n\n<details>\n<summary>Can I drive, and when can I resume sport or work?</summary>\n\nDriving is generally possible. Plan a pause if the back is tired. Desk work: often early, watching posture. Running or pivot sport: other criteria than the rower.\n\n</details>\n\n<details>\n<summary>What contraindications, and what timeline for results?</summary>\n\nAcute low-back pain, forbidden flexion, a disc flare, infection, chest pain: we wait. The movement cleans up in a few sessions; endurance, in weeks.
